Obsessive Personality Disorder
Obsessive personality disorder is when someone has to have constant order in their lives, and is also obsessed with constant thoughts, behaviors, activities, and order. Some people are extremely obsessed over cleanliness, while others are obsessed over having control over things. Someone with this personality disorder only sees things in black and white.
There is no in between for these people. People with this disorder will tend to perform a series of daily rituals to ensure that the worst does not happen to them and that everything goes just the way they plan. This disease is nevertheless very devastating to those that have it. People with this disease usually know and understand that their thoughts and beliefs are irrational, but still tend to question if they really are. They are in a constant state of anxiety and doubt.
One in every 40 people will develop symptoms of this disorder at some point in their lives. There is no doubt that obsessive compulsive disorder is very common, and there is also no doubt that it needs to be treated right away before it ruins the lives of those who have to live with this disorder even further. Alternative treatments are the best way to go when trying to effectively deal with this disorder. It is best to stay away from prescription medications because they do not provide a solid cure. Therapies and other non-medicated treatments are the only ways to help prevent and cure this disease.
One of the many alternative treatments for obsessive personality disorder is self treatment. This involves exposing yourself on a very gradual basis to certain things in your life that you find threatening. These things might involve allowing yourself to use a public restroom one day a week, going a few hours without washing your hands, driving a car a few times a week, or anything that you are afraid of. It is best to try to practice facing your fears one at a time. Self treatment is not going to be an overnight cure.
If you feel that you seek further help, try going to a counselor. Some places will often hold group therapy sessions just for those with obsessive personality disorder because it is indeed so common. Being with others that have the disorder will help you. You will see that there are things that they cannot do that you can. By being in group therapy with other individuals, you will also begin to realize that there are probably people that have much worse problems than you do. You can in turn start helping those individuals to face their problems. By helping others, you can help yourself.
It is best to seek treatment very early in the disorder. Some doctors will practice an alternative treatment that his called cognitive behavioral therapy to help prevent the rituals and obsessive thoughts from constantly reocurring. Several people have responded to alternative treatment very well for their disorder. Alternative mental health treatments will continue to work, and have much better results than traditional prescription medication treatment, which can sometimes aggravate the patients condition. Alternative treatment is the safer and better way.
