What are Hallucinogens?
Hallucinogens are drugs that can cause people to feel, hear, and see things that are not there. They are very addictive and they can also be very damaging to a person's health years down the road. This drug come in two forms, man made and natural. The natural drug consist of certain types of mushrooms and peyote cactus. The man made drug is the most popular and consists of STP, MDA, and LSD. These drugs become increasingly popular in the '60s and 70s, but are still being abused today. They may not be as popular as some other drugs are, but their effects are still just as damaging, and they still ruin lives.
Long term effects of hallucinogens include trouble thinking, brain damage, memory loss, confusion, and flash backs. Some of the symptoms that can occur while using are tremors, panic attacks, loss of appetite, coma, dilated pupils, heavy sweating, increased heart rate and blood pressure, a distorted sense of one's self and time perception, and worst of all, death. Several people will actually do harm to themselves when they are "tripping". Tripping is the slang term that is often used when someone is heavily using.
Addiction is a disease, and this type of dependence is a form of addiction. One cannot properly function if addicted. Proper treatment is necessary as soon as possible, before it is too late. Alternative treatment is the best form of treatment for this type of dependence. Some of the alternative health treatments include one-on-one therapy, self-help sessions, and rehabilitation. One-on-one therapy is great because it can help the patient to become alert of his or her thinking patterns that cause him or her to use. Since addiction starts in the mind, there is no such thing as a drug that cannot be stopped. It takes a very willing individual to get off of this life-threatening drug. Stopping usage has to be wanted in order for treatment to become effective.
Self-help can teach the user how to say no and how not to be dependent on the drug. It starts with a change of thinking and behavior patterns. One must become educated about hallucinogens and their ill effects. Group therapy is also a great from of treatment. Having others with the same problem standing behind you can help out a lot. Rehabilitation has been proven to be one of the most effective strategies for beating the addiction that comes with this drug because of the amount of treatment. With rehabilitation programs, a person undergoes a variety of necessary observations. The doctors that are provided within a rehabilitation program assess the patient's behavior patterns and help to correct the thought processes that are associated with addiction.
Addiction is an illness, and it can be treated. Alternative treatment is the best because it does not offer medications for treatment. It teaches the patient to be self reliant instead of dependent on something else. Drugs are not the remedy for treatment of an addiction. The patient will likely become dependent on something else if medication is prescribed. Alternative treatment teaches what real freedom is from addiction.
